The mission of the MCAA?s Book Publishing activity is to make available books and
other publications related to topics relevant to researchers and their careers, as well
as the societal impact of science and research, in print and digital formats. In addition,
the MCAA wants to provide its members with the resources and support for taking
their work to the public.
With its publishing activity, the MCAA aims to respond to four objectives that are
aligned with the Association?s overall communication goals, serving both the MCAA
community and its external audiences (the target audiences of the publishing activity
are listed in more detail in section 3).
The objectives of the publishing activity are:
1. To promote the contributions of the MCAA and its members to research,
innovation, and society.
2. To offer the MCAA members resources and support for publishing their work in
book format.
3. To support the development of researchers? careers and professional skills.
4. To communicate science and research to audiences in and outside the MCAA
community

In order to diversify its collections, in 1988, French independent editor L’École des loisirs decides to open an editorial branch in Brussels. The name chosen for the new Belgian imprint is Pastel.
Pastel’s catalogue currently includes over 600 works, around 80% of them being original works, and about 60 authors, both Belgian and international. Pastel’s catalogue highlights albums from artists from England, Swede, Germany, etc. A few of them became emblematic of the publishing house, such as Éva Eriksson, Barbara Firth, Anita Jeram, etc. Pastel’s editorial policy pays great attention to the requirement of literary and graphic quality that was always praised at L’École des loisirs, with a will to innovate through artistic ways while addressing children without taboos and with softness and respecting the young reader.
